Black Honda from the blue - At the start of the month we took a trip out to California to drive along the pacific coast highway, look up at some very tall trees and to tread near to a volcano or two. We had a great trip although I think that the kids spent a little too much time in the car and not enough time playing on the beach. Near the end of out road trip we were had a life flashing experience when a black Honda came skidding/flying (way out of control anyway) across the road between us and the car 30 feet in front of us, and crashed into a field beside the road. We were traveling at about 70mph and after the near miss we looked at each other and thought about what might have happened.
Marcus
Age2 Years 9 Months
Weight37 lb
Height3′ 2″
The great explainer - No longer is it the norm with Marcus to use the kid style emotional triggers to get what he wants (although we do get that too), nowadays he will often give us a articulated explanation about why he can't come to dinner right now or why he 'NEEDS' more water. He has also developed the hilarious habit of moving to the next parent when he doesn't get the answer he wants and changing his story slightly. While in California he asked for water after we had gone to bed, here is conversation that followed:
Damian: No, go back to sleep
   Marcus: But my tummy hurts
Damian: Where does your tummy hurt?
Marcus: Right there (pointing to his shoulder)
   Damian: Go back to bed
   ~Marcus then goes to Nien~
Marcus: I want some water Mommy
   Nien: Go to bed Marcus
   Marcus: But my knee hurts
Sophie
Age1 Year 2 Months
Weight25 lb
Height2′ 6″
Share the joy - Sophie can be very determined indeed, she is capable of holding onto an object far beyond the time that Marcus ever would have even tried. This month however the battle for 'stuff' has reached a new level, now instead of just crying until Marcus (or other kids) give in, Sophie will pursue her desired object, sometimes with arms flailing. Yes, at times our little sweet bundle of joy can turn mean and nasty. On a more positive note her language skills are improving and she can repeat quite a few words (or at least some of their sound), walking is great and the climbing has really reached new heights (literally).
